LED savings and payback calculator

Estimate how much energy, money and CO2 an LED upgrade could save each year, and how long it could take to pay back. All figures below are editable starting values, not Polaris data for your site. Change them to match your building.

Example value. Enter the number of fittings you plan to replace.

Example: a 400 W metal halide high bay lamp. If you know the total circuit wattage including control gear, use that.

Example: PS-UFO-MAX set to 150 W (it can be set on site to 100, 150 or 200 W).

Example: 12 hours a day, 365 days a year. Enter your own hours.

Assumption: UK average price paid by small non-domestic users (20 to 499 MWh a year), April to June 2026, including Climate Change Levy, excluding VAT. Source: DESNZ, Quarterly Energy Prices table 3.4.2 (provisional). Use the unit rate from your own bill if you have it.

Optional. Enter a quote or budget for the upgrade to see the payback period. Leave empty to skip.

Your estimate
Energy saved per year-
Cost saved per year-
CO2e saved per year-
Simple payback-

This is an estimate only. It does not include sensors or dimming, maintenance savings, lamp replacement, VAT, or changes in electricity prices. CO2e uses the UK government greenhouse gas conversion factor for UK grid electricity, 0.13096 kg CO2e per kWh (DESNZ conversion factors 2026, Scope 2, electricity generated). Payback is the project cost divided by the yearly cost saving.

How the calculator works

Energy saved per year (kWh) = number of fittings x (existing watts minus LED watts) x hours per year / 1,000. Cost saved = energy saved x price per kWh. CO2e saved = energy saved x conversion factor. Payback in years = project cost / cost saved per year.

A survey and lighting design plan from us confirms how many fittings you need and at what wattage, which is often fewer than you have today. Every Polaris product carries a 5-year warranty.
